Tim's Thoughts - Empire Records

The Proscenia Film Society is sponsoring the April 8th screening of Empire Records. Doors open at 3:00 PM, the movie starts at 4:00 PM.

Empire Records (1995) stars many future stars. The story tracks a day in the life of Empire Records, a locally-owned record store, struggling to survive. Through the day we get to know the employees, their likes, loves, and futures; we get to meet Rex Manning - a guest celebrity coming into the store for a record signing; we get to learn that he is not an employee favorite, except for one employee; and we get to see the what happens when the record store struggles to stay open in the shadow of national chains.

The soundtrack of the movie contains some now classic hits.

Summary: The movie is an excellent coming-to-age story of the employees and the shifting pre-Internet and smart phone culture as large chains were causing local mom-and-pop stores to struggle to stay open. And what happens when people care.
